A Regime‐State Framework for Morphodynamic Modeling of Seabed Roughness

چکیده

Abstract Seabed roughness in the dynamic near‐shore environment is continuously modified by interplay of physical and biological processes including bedform morphodynamics bioturbation. We introduce a novel regime‐state framework to determine dominant modifier seabed based on observed or estimated forcing, which are classified critical Shields parameter wave mobility thresholds. The applied set field observations containing time‐lapse sonar imagery ripple growth, decay, rate decay varies both processes. sensitive oscillatory forcing magnitude direction relative relict orientation time‐evolving height. found two distinct episodes ripples decayed 20%–30% within 4–5 days. Ripple models did not agree up following same time period. By varying using time‐dependent diffusion coefficient determined mechanism, resulted better agreement observations. Benthic megafauna also shown create roughness, excavating dense fields (>1 pit/m 2 ) pits (≤84 cm diameter) that acoustic comparable 8–12 high ripples. spatiotemporal variability megafaunal pit formation suggests diffusion‐based bioturbation adequate require additional parameterization mechanistically model. presented this study serves as for future investigations modeling morphodynamics, bioturbation, roughness.

Morphodynamic modeling of erodible laminar channels.

A two-dimensional model for the erosion generated by viscous free-surface flows, based on the shallow-water equations and the lubrication approximation, is presented. It has a family of self-similar solutions for straight erodible channels, with an aspect ratio that increases in time. It is also shown, through a simplified stability analysis, that a laminar river can generate various bar instab...

An equivalent roughness model for seabed backscattering at very high frequencies using a band-matrix approach.

This work concerns modeling of very high frequency (>100 kHz) sonar images obtained from a sandy seabed. The seabed is divided into a discrete number of ID height profiles. For each height profile the backscattered pressure is computed by an integral equation method for interface scattering between two homogeneous media as formulated by Chan [IEEE Trans. Antennas Propag. 46, 142-149 (1998)]. Ho...

A New Framework for Congestion Management with Exact Modeling of Impacting Factors

Congestion in the transmission lines is one of the technical problems that appear particularly in the deregulated environment. The voltage stability issue gets more important because of heavy loading in this environment. The main factor causing instability is the inability of the power system to meet the demand for reactive power. This paper presents a new approach for alleviation congestion re...
